I am currently seeking re-election as your representative on the Democratic National Committee from Texas elected by the Hispanic Caucus. I currently represent Tejano Democrats, Mexican-American Democrats, Texas Latina List, Progressive Hispanic Democrats, LGBTQIA Hispanic Latino Democrats, Latinx, and all Hispanic delegates including Veterans, Labor, Seniors, and the Youth.
Daughter of Mexican immigrants with generational roots in Texas and California, Celina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Latino Studies, a Master of Arts in Government, and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University. Her mother is Olga from Sinaloa and her father Luis from Michoacán. Her grandfather Francisco Vazquez was a bracero recruited to work in Uvalde, Texas. She has 3 sisters and 1 brother raised in a union household. Her father Luis worked at Kal Kan Pet Food for 25 years and was a member of UFCW Local 770 while Olga worked for the school district and was a member of CSEA. Celina and her siblings are first-generation college graduates. She is also a proud graduate of Leadership America, Leadership Texas, Leadership Brazos, Las Comadres Para Las Americas Texas Public Policy & Civic Engagement Program, the Women's Campaign School at Yale, and the New American Leaders Training.
Professionally, Celina is currently an Academic Recruiter at a local university. Her role is to educate and inform future students. She travels throughout Texas to help bolster interest in healthcare careers at an early age. As a former Texas and Federal Government teacher to community college students, she maintains an active membership with the Texas Community College Teachers Association.
Celina has worked very hard in party-building activities at the grassroots level as an SDEC member and now a DNC member. Celina’s political experience includes service on the State Democratic Executive Committee, Senate District 9 in North Texas, and Vice-President of the North Texas Tejano Democrats. In addition, Celina had the privilege to serve as the only Latina and woman Justice of the Peace in Brazos County where she flipped a seat from “red to blue”, and served from 2019-2022. She is a bilingual Volunteer Deputy Registrar and serves as an Election Worker with her son Diego.
Celina served on the board as Past President and one of the founders of the Texas Latina List. Founded in 2013, Texas Latina List is a progressive political action committee committed to promoting and increasing the active participation of Latinas at all levels of elected and appointed offices, including public boards and commissions throughout Texas. In addition, she has served on the advisory board of Latinas Represent, a national effort to increase Latinas in elected office.
Celina actively campaigned for the 2016 and 2020 elections and served on the Latinos for Hillary and the Latino Finance Council for Hillary for America. In addition, she served on the Women for Wendy Davis for Governor Steering Committee, Leticia Van de Putte for Lt. Governor, Latinas for Libby in Senate District 10 & dozens of state and local races. Celina is passionate about electing more women and youth within our Democratic Party infrastructure including County Chairs and Precinct Chairs.
